here it is. the highly awaited and anticipated 8th album from Love Metal band HIM, Tears On Tape.easily my most anticipated album of 2013 from my favourite band ever this moment has been well awaited from the moment the album’s very name was announced i dove deep into the Doom this album breathes. and what i found was not what i was expecting.Unleash The Red : the album’s beautifully constructed intro sounds like Screamworks, with its skin slowly sagging off revealing the new face of the band. the intro is mystifying and draws you into the album much like the first words Spoken in Screamworks, or the hard heavy hitting riffs from Love Metal’s debut track Buried Alive By Love. like JAWS this song reels you in for a ride. 5/5All Lips Go Blue : the song goes right to buisnes falling right into place from its intro. the song was the first fans heard of this album’s ambiance. captivated me quick into Ville’s vocals and the melodic melancholy splashed over the sonically updated new HIM sound. a truly great opening song. 5/5Love Without Tears : this track brings back memories of Dark Light vocally, but sonically it sounds like a Screamworks song. so for you Screamworks and Dark Light lovers this could be your ‘go to’ track. the song is catchy and really feels like a possible single. this is one of the songs that shows the most that HIM still has just as powerful instrumental power as much as it does vocals. 5/5I Will Be The End Of You : the first Tears On Tape song heard with horrid live quality, also jammed to on a regular basis. this track as of now is my Favourite, it reminds me of their albums Venus Doom & Love Metal a-lot. it may hit different for others but for me it just gives me that feeling i got when listening to those two albums for the first time. a catchy possible single worthy song. so far Tears On Tape has done nothing bus satisfy me. 5/5Tears On Tape : the album’s title track and first of three singles from the album. at first listen it was the weakest of the 3 that had leaked at the time. but listening to it in greater quality really brought me to like it more than i had. its also one of the SUPER NEW songs from HIM because it doesn’t sound much like anything they have released so far.. its got its few similarities to other albums most Screamworks, but still it feels the newest. but if i was forced a pick a least favourite song on the album i would say Tears On Tape. 4/5Into The Night : whatever Tears On Tape did wrong this song makes up for it, tenfold! from its awesome gritty opening to Ville’s soft vocal intro, Into The Night just fucking rocks and holds its own next to I Will Be The End Of You. truly great, and is the second single off the album (Tears On Tape being the 1st, and All Lips Go Blue being the 3rd). Into The Night has a place in my heart already and i can’t help but love it. 5/5Hearts At War : Venus Doom’s likely-ness shines through this song and one other the most on this album. another track i absolutely love, i mean i love them all but THIS..(and the others i favorably mentioned before) holy fuck. the song is beautiful and has all old and new HIM fans can connect with and love. me being a HIM fan for as long as i have i can honestly and whole heartedly say im loving Tears On Tape so far. this song increases such feelings with its brooding intro and mystical outro. 5/5Trapped In Autumn : a outro and intro song, really gives you the stuck in Limbo sound and feel. beautiful. it reminds me of the game LIMBO for those who know it. 5/5No Love : this song is the Venere In Veritas of Tears On Tape, without being an opening song its in the same vain. although in my first few listens i didnt really picture myself coming back to this song… but slowly and surely i am coming back to it and taking more and more away from it each time. this may be the same case with quite a few other HIM fans out there. 4/5Drawn & Quartered : the longest song on the album keeps the album’s luster up and high and sounds like it could have been in the famed movie The Crow. it just gives off that type of energy. and surprise surprise i love it. the song is a slower one and brings me back to Deep Shadows in a way with it’s fluid vocal and instrumental mix it really is a beauty track. its a frequent re-visited track through my re-listenings of the album. 5/5Lucifer’s Chorale : an intro outro song thats sounds like a Venus Doom offspring really brooding and gritty, sets the mood completely for the next song. kind of a creepy song and very very different from the others. 5/5W.L.S.T.D. (when love starts to die) : the album’s closing vocal song bleeds remnants of Venus Doom, very low tempo singing from Ville until the chorus kicks in, has a Sleepwalking Past Hope sort of sound.. at least the first half. Ville’s deep signature vocal style is well dominating in this track and puts to rest some of the fans worry of he losing his voice. i like the song, it really closes the album out well. it fades nicely into the final track that will bid Tears goodbye until the repeat button is pressed. 5/5Kiss The Void : the final intro outro song, and song itself on the album has fading haunting vocals masked with a simple drum beat and key playing. a very nice way to see this album off. one of the more beautiful intro outro songs on the album. 5/5so it’s clear to you who just read this review that i am in no way disappointed with Tears On Tape. only 2 songs i had some trouble connecting with and the rest hitting home in all HIM glory. the album IS different from their recent albums but is in no way bad. Tears On Tape the newest single in my opinion isn’t a song that best represents the album’s true power. Into The Night and All Lips are much better at representing such things. the album is gem, and i highly recommend HIM fans of all status to check this album out. as long as i have been a fan a HIM album has never upset me, and still to this day that feeling still continues and lingers in my head, HIM have done a masterful job with this piece. and i can give it no higher than a 10 out of 10 (which is the highest i go anyway)the included LIVE tracks may i add are all quite the great listen as well. im not sure but i believe different versions come with different amounts of them. together with the album and live tracks theres 20.
but anyway thats it. gonna keep listening and loving this album now. deffinately in my top 3 best of 2013 so far!
